Silverudd's Blue Eggs
  • Silverudd's Blue Eggs

Let's highlight our favorite breed, the Silverudd's Blues! They are a Swedish bird, and the only purebred bird that lays green eggs, without being a mix of other breeds. They are excellently tempered and they tolerate both extreme heat and cold very, very well. They are insanely hardy birds.

We started with first and second import birds from Greenfire Farms just over 10 years ago and have been refining ever since! Silverudd's come in blue, black, and splash plumage, and we much prefer splash. We are also happy to have raised some stunning, dark blue, roosters who have taken their place within the flocks.

The birds are great layers, they take a shorter winter break than our other birds, and lay throughout the summer. Another interesting fact is that depending on import, you can have birds that have a black iris along with their black pupil, which is a very interesting look. It is more common however for them to have a copper iris.

Their combs are always single, and smaller than other single comb breeds. Some stay straight, some develop a bit of a flop, and some develop incredibly small combs (my husband's favorite variety!) Their legs are willow, or also referred to as "green".

We have genetically tested all birds in our Silverudd's flock and are proud to say we are 100% homozygous for the blue egg genes, so you are guaranteed to raise offspring that will ONLY lay green eggs versus running the risk of breeding two heterozygous birds that could result in offspring laying tan eggs. We also do not have any birds with yellow legs, all are uniform in willow/green legs.

They lay green eggs in every shade of green under the sun from mint to moss, and can be speckled or matte, and even occasionally aqua!

We are so excited to offer these yet again once we get the 2024 season off and rolling!

    • Shipping

Eggs are packaged in custom foam shippers, double boxed, and sent USPS priority two to three day mail. We ship eggs that are a maximum of three days post-lay at time of shipping.  We do our very best to protect the eggs from rough handling, but we have no control over what happens to the box once it leaves our possession.
